Professor, Gerontology Nursing Endowed Chair - Cizik School of Nursing

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Cizik School of Nursing invites nominations and applications for the Isla Carroll Turner Endowed Distinguished Chair in Gerontology Nursing. Senior scientists with a funded multidisciplinary program of gerontology research who are at the rank of a tenured Associate or Professor are invited to apply. The incumbent is expected to be a recognized academic leader who will promote intellectual leadership in gerontology research to advance the science through research. A key component of the Chair is attention through research and/or service to the needy elderly population of Harris County, Texas.
While we are open to a broad range of areas of expertise, we have a particular interest in candidates whose work focuses on technology and aging. Although candidates must demonstrate a commitment to quality teaching and service, this Chair position is reserved for those concentrated in the advancement of research.
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston supports many initiatives related to Aging such as the Consortium on Aging led by a nationally recognized geriatrician. There is significant opportunity to collaborate with a considerable number of faculty whose research focuses on gerontology within our six schools at UTHealth. Furthermore, the Cizik School of Nursing has a fully furnished one bedroom/one bath smart apartment lab that is entirely devoted to research on aging in place with the assistance of technology.
The Chair collaborates with other Endowed Chairs, the Director of the Cizik Nursing Research Institute, the Associate Dean for Research, and the Dean to advance the research mission and goals of the Cizik School of Nursing. The Chair functions administratively within the Board of Regents, UTHealth Science Center, and the Cizik School of Nursing Policies and Procedures.
The Chair is responsible for the design, execution, and procurement of funding of gerontology nursing research in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Chairs must maintain the values espoused by the institution and school and promote excellent in the areas of the mission.
SPECIAL RESPONSIBLIITIES:
The Chair will:
- Maintain a significant research portfolio supported by extramural funding.
- Identify and respond to aging related health issues that need to be addressed through research, curriculum development, practice, and community service.
- Maintain a minimal teaching load concentrated on PhD and DNP courses.
- Train and advise graduate and postdoctoral students.
- Facilitate the professional development of the CSON research faculty including growth for promotion and tenure.
- Establish sustained relationships within the Texas Medical Center to broaden the scope of the Cizik School of Nursing.
The successful candidate should have an earned doctorate in Nursing or equivalent field and a strong record of significant research funding with preference given to those with NIH funding. This is an indefinite, senior position and the candidate is expected to meet the standards for appointment at the academic rank of a tenured Associate or Professor.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The Chair is endowed annually to support the holder’s research. This is an exempt, full-time position. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance/403(b), and retirement plan.
