Chair, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (DPALM) at McGovern Medical School of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) is seeking a dedicated and dynamic individual to serve as the departmental Chair. DPALM is a large academic pathology department situated in the Texas Medical Center. It principally serves the flagship hospital of The Memorial Hermann Hospital System, and the Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital of the Harris Health System. Through its growing outreach laboratory, UT*Path, DPALM also serves other hospitals and clinical practices throughout the Houston metropolitan area. We strive to be national leaders in developing and applying scientific and clinical knowledge to diagnosis and monitoring of disease, and to leverage that knowledge with outstanding services that add value to the delivery of quality care to patients through our hospital system partners and clinical practices throughout the region.
DPALM educates medical students (240), residents (28), and fellows each year within and beyond the Medical School. Its research spans diverse areas, often through collaborations with multiple institutions. We have established ourselves as innovators by the development of novel services such as hemotherapy and algorithm based consultative services for our clinical colleagues.
The candidate for Chair should be a board certified pathologist with knowledge and insights that will help build on our current strengths and further expand capabilities in subspecialty anatomic pathology services as well as molecular, genomic and computational approaches to improving health care. We look forward to having as Chair an individual who will guide the department into a digital age through telepathology, quantitative pathology and informatics. Expectations include further expansion and recruitment of faculty with high potential for developing funded research and research collaborations. The candidate should possess strong leadership skills that foster a culture of team building and collaborations.
