Associate Professor/Professor, Chronic Disease Endowed Distinguished Chair - Center for Nursing Research, Cizik School of Nursing
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Cizik School of Nursing invites nominations and applications for the inaugural Chronic Disease Endowed Distinguished Chair. Senior scientists with a funded multidisciplinary program of chronic disease research who are at the rank of a tenured Associate or Professor are invited to apply. The incumbent is expected to be a recognized academic leader who will promote intellectual and ethical leadership in chronic disease research to advance the science through research on aging, palliative care, chronic disease management and prevention, or improvement in quality of life of patients with chronic conditions.
While we are open to a broad range of areas of expertise, we have a particular interest in candidates whose work focuses on the intersection of clinical care and health. Although candidates must demonstrate a commitment to quality teaching and service, this Chair position is reserved for those concentrated in the advancement of research.
Position Key Accountabilities:
The Chair collaborates with other Endowed Chairs, the Director of the Cizik Nursing Research Institute, the Associate Dean for Research, and the Dean to advance the research mission and goals of the Cizik School of Nursing and the Cizik Nursing Research Institute. The Chair functions administratively within the Board of Regents, UTHealth Science Center, and the Cizik School of Nursing Policies and Procedures.
The Chair is responsible for the design, execution, and procurement of funding of chronic disease research in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Chairs must maintain the values espoused by the institution and school and promote excellent in the areas of the mission.
The Chair will:
-Maintain a minimal teaching load concentrated on PhD and DNP courses and committees.
-Train and advise graduate and postdoctoral students.
-Maintain a significant research portfolio supported by extramural funding.
-Identify and respond to chronic disease related health issues that need to be addressed through research, curriculum development, practice, and community service.
-Facilitate the professional development of the Research Institute faculty and CSON research faculty including growth for promotion and tenure.
-Establish sustained relationships within the Texas Medical Center to broaden the scope of the Cizik Nursing Research Institute.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate should have an earned doctorate in Nursing, Medicine, Healthcare Management, Psychology, Public Health or equivalent field and a strong record of significant research funding with preference given to those with NIH funding. Experience in a senior clinical, hospital, rehabilitation, long-term care facility, healthcare system management, public policy position, or similar accomplishments and leadership are valuable, although not a requirement. This is an indefinite, senior position and the candidate is expected to meet the standards for appointment at the academic rank of a tenured Associate or Professor.
Additional Information:
The Chair is endowed annually to support the holder’s research. This is an exempt, full-time position. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance/403(b), and retirement plan.
