Position Summary:

Provides advising information to students throughout the academic year; responsible for coordinating the advising process with the divisions and regional campuses, and develops advising materials and resources.

 

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Provides advising information to students throughout the academic year.
  2. Provides support to students during the registration process.
  3. Explores various major and career options. 
  4. Advises and counsels students for course selection/registration and develops student degree plans.
  5. Counsels students on academic policies and procedures.
  6. Conducts individual and group advising sessions.
  7. Coordinates the advising process with the divisions and regional campuses, and develops advising materials and resources.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent attention to detail, skilled multi-tasking ability, demonstrated commitment to follow-through of assigned tasks and projects, and exceptional customer services skills. Excellent computer skills including facility with Microsoft Office Suite and database management. 

 

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in related field with three (3) years of related experience; experience in advising or Student Affairs in a University setting preferred; or
Master’s degree in related field with one (1) year of related experience; experience in advising or Student Affairs in a University setting preferred. 

 

Minimum Experience:

Years of experience varies based on education level.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive:

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215
