Position Summary:

Provides skilled plumbing work at the tradesman level in the installation, maintenance and repair of domestic water, steam, natural gas, sewer, compressed air, vacuum, medical gases and other utilities systems in general building, mechanical, office, and laboratory environments under the guidance of a journeyman or master plumber.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1.  Installs and repairs plumbing for all UTHSC buildings following standard safety codes and procedures.
2.  Installs, maintains, and repairs water, air, gas, sewer and steam lines and systems.
3.  Cuts and threads pipe.
4.  Connects and maintains water units.
5.  Repairs and cleans sewer pipes.
6.  Determines and secures necessary tools.
7.  Maintains a clean work environment.
8.  Requisitions material and maintains inventories.  
9.  Required to complete assigned work orders using the computerized maintenance manager system (CMMS) through personal computer (PC) and smartphone applications.
10.  Required to carry a university communication device as assigned and respond to calls during normal business hours. 
11.  This job classification is designated as "essential" at the UT Health Science Center at Houston.  In case of an emergency, "essential" positions are those required to sustain clinical services and/or are responsible for the protection of university assets. Personnel in designated  "essential" positions are expected to report to their designated work site during their appointed work schedules, even when the institution has been officially declared to be on "restricted access" or "closed" due to adverse conditions.
12.  Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Certification/Skills:

* Licensed Tradesman Plumber-Limited - Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners.
* The license must be current at the time of hire and maintained throughout the period of employment.
* Basic PC skills.

Minimum Education:

High school degree or equivalent or completion of a recognized apprenticeship.

Minimum Experience:

Two (2) years of plumbing experience.

 

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive:

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
