Position Summary:

Provides direct and indirect advanced levels of patient care for medical emergencies under the direct or indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or Physician.  

Position Key Accountabilities:

1.    Depending on department needs, may be responsible for driving a first response vehicle to acute stroke 911 calls.
2.    Documents vital signs of patient and provides acute standard of care treatment.
3.    Cares for patients in critical condition.
4.    Ensures safe care to patients while adhering to policies, procedures, and standards, within specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.
5.    Assists in lifting, carrying and transporting patients.
6.    Maintains supplies, ensures ambulance and equipment maintenance.
7.    Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Current Paramedic License issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
Depending on department, may require Current Driver’s License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety. 
 

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or GED and completion of a Department of State Health Services approved EMS training course.

Minimum Experience:

3 years of critical care and/or emergency room experience. 

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
 

Security Sensitive:

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
