Position Summary:

Organizes and coordinate the research and educational administrative functions within the Center for Clinical & Translational Sciences (CCTS).  Promotes multidisciplinary research collaborations and training in the areas of clinical and translational research.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1.    Coordinates overall research, and education/training administrative functions within the CCTS.  
2.    Responsible for helping with writing, completion and submission of progress reports, related grants, competitive renewal and related documents for the CCTS and related multidisciplinary/multischool/multi-institutional programs associated with the CCTS.
3.    Responsible for helping execute training programs/workshops/seminars for new investigators, both basic and clinical, on finding funding and writing grant proposals.
4.    Works with HSC investigators to identify and apply for grants to fund multi-investigator/multidisciplinary/multi-institutional programs.
5.    Serves as a resource for faculty to support the development of major research initiatives.
6.    Serves as liaison to NIH programmatic staff.
7.    Assists in the coordination of CCTS network activities with other regional/national CTSA representatives.
8.    Manages Human Resources activities for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection; hiring and termination, training, development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning. 
9.    Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded; financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
10.    Interacts with representatives from state, local, federal, and private agencies regarding proposals and funded projects.
11.    Interacts regularly with representatives within the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) and Texas Regional CTSA Consortium (TRCC) networks.
12.    Works closely with both internal departments and the CTSA and TRCC network regarding strategy and collaborative opportunities.
13.    Facilitates collaboration between clinicians and research scientists, internal and external to the University.
14.    Informs upper management of key activities.
15.    Conducts and supervises training related to research for internal, hospital, and community groups.
16.    Communicates with community and professionals to share objectives and outcomes. Prepares/makes oral presentations at professional meetings. May also participate in committees as deemed appropriate for the department.
17.    Assists in the development and management of CCTS communications strategy and implementation.
18.    Manages and develops CTSA grant program activities.
19.    Perform other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Advanced-level grant writing skills.  May require program-specific certifications.

 

Minimum Education:

Master’s degree is required and a degree in Biomedical Sciences is preferred.  PhD degree in science or public health preferred.

Minimum Experience:

Five (5) years of experience in a related research environment. Experience in advanced grant proposal writing and submission required.  Extensive knowledge of, and experience in, clinical research is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
